George Snyder

Prolific, highly energized, George Snyder has been exploring space and time on canvas for over four decades.

Growing up on the edge of urban Charleston, West Virginia, his earliest memories of his grandmother's beautiful, color quilt patterns drew him into a fascination with geometry, pattern, and color with the underpinning of exquisite craftsmanship.

Educated at Marshal University and then receiving his MFA at the University of North Carolina, he became aware of the art historical context for his vision: abstract and constructivist artists as well as minimalists like Sol Lewitt.

His mature work, created near the arid beaches of Florida for over two decades or more recently in the isolated mountain studio in the Appalachians of West Virginia, can be divided into three loose concepts: serene, explosive, and parody.
